SPRING FLOWERS.

ST. MARY’S BULB SHOW, A beautiful display of bulbs and spring flowers is on view at St. Mary’s bulb and spring flower show, which opened at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday. Many of the leading horticulturists of New Plymouth and the surrounding districts have filled the hall with their exhibits, the whole effect being a reminder that spring is near.

Notable among the exhibits is one by Mts. Greig, which occupies almost an entire side of the hall and would be a distinct credit to any enthusiast. It embraces many beautiful varieties of daffodils and narcissi, hyacinths, anemones and primroses, rare eyclaments, cinerarias and a general collection of other spring flowers and pot plans, including ferns, etc.

A table of daffodils shown by Mrs. J. French is particularly beautiful, many of the blooms being of rare development and beauty. Other displays meriting attention include those by

Messrs. Duncan and Davies, Mr. J, Gibson. Mrs. Harper Lepper (Lepperton), Mrs. Elliott (Waitara). Mrs. Barthorpe, Mrs. D. Mauri (Opunake) and Mrs. T, C. List; Messrs. Jas. Burgess, C. Sanders, S. W. Shaw, F. Besley, Miss Winfield and Mrs. Wallacli.

A number of competitive classes were arranged for tlic children, who entered enthusiastically, the results being as follows:

Buttonholes, girls over 10 years— Hazel Buckle 1, Norma Johnstone 2, Gertrude ITh rd graves 3.

Girls tinder 10 years.—Betty Kingston 1, Jean Henderson 2, Joan Webster 3. Boys over 9 years.—D Elliott 1, A. Henderson 2, D’Arcy Jackson 3.

Boys under 9 years.—Teddie Harvie 1, Guy Harvie 2. Hector Luxton 3. Table for children.—Hazel Buckle 1. Table for adults.—Miss Ruebe 1, Miss Curtis 2.

A produce stall, plentifully provided with good things, was yesterday in charge of Mrs. Skinner, assisted by Miss Stephenson Smith. Miss Hammerton, Mrs. Snell and Miss Ruebe. and a jumble stall managed by the secretary of the

show (Miss Devenish) received much attention. The afternoon tea arrangements were in charge of Miss Ixjih-

bridge, assisted by Mrs. Billing, Mrs, Bennett, Mi-ses Harper, Curtis and Myres. Miss Pelham had charge of the children’s classes.

The show will be open again this afternoon and this evening.
