PATHETIC TRAIN TRAGEDY.
GIRL’S EFFORT TO SAVE LOVER. ’ London, August 22. A remarkable story of pluck is revealed in a sweetheart’s vain effort to save her lover’s life on the Brighton railway. James Kiddell, aged 22, who was standing in a carriage, fell backward through the window of the door. As he fell his sweetheart clutched his leg and tenaciously held on. Passengers pulled one of the communication cords, which, however, broke, and rhe other failed to stop the train. Assisted by her brother, the girl grimly gripped Kiddell, whose body was swaying over the metals as the train rushed on
through several stations. The holder’s strength was growing weaker and weaker, and just as the train was slowing down at a station the girl fainted. Kiddell fell between the platform and the train and was picked up dead, his head haring struck several objects while dangling on the line.
