With regard to the visit of the French Rugby team next year, the' chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union management committee, Mr. G. W. Slade, intimated the other day that there was a prospect of a tour being subsidised by the French Government. The French Minister for Sports, he understood, was an old international player. In proposing the toast of the "Test Contestants” (Springboks and All Blacks), at n smoke concert at Eastbourne on Saturday evening, Mr. J. Heenan reviewed the test matches played by New Zealand since 1893 against different countries. To quote Mr. Heenan’s own words, second ests had been "hoodoo” as far as the All Blacks were concerned. In most cases they had wen the first and third, but the second had, on many occasions, been lost or drawn. Supporters of the game in the Dominion could take heart from this fact, and hope that the thi;d test would give New Zealand the rubber.
