Earlier reporta stated that Captain Biseett and 22 of the crew returned to the waterlogged ship late on Thursday, after being rescued the night before by the Cordova. The latter stood by till Friday, but Captain Bissett declined a tow or further assistance because the Canadian Winner was expected to reach him on Saturday, and two other steamers on Sunday. The Cordova thereupon resumed her voyage. The Canadian Winner arrived on the scene ami started a search, which the latest reports show has been fruitless. Sire reported seeing a condiderable mount of lumber and wreckage, pre---.tnablv the Importer's deck cargo. The owners of the Importer are still hopeful that .die has only drifted from the position where the Cordova left her. but in the meantime nothing has been heard of the lifeboat in charge of A. Laird, second officer of the Importer. with ten of the crew, which left to seek assistance before the Cordova arrived on the scene.—Reuter.

The Canadian Importer is the second ship-that the Canadian Government line has lost within a month, the Canadian Exporter having been wrecked off the eoast of Oregon on August 3. The Canadian Importer was bound for Auckland, where she was to discharge cargo, and was then to proceed to Australia. She left Vancouver on August 12. She was a steel screw steamer of 5500 tone gross register, and was built in 1'920 by J. Goughian and Sons, of Vancouver. Her dimensions were: Length. 400 ft: breadth, 62ft: and depth. 28ft Gin. She was valued *at £300.000.
