WRECKAGE FOUND.
WASHED UP NEAR HAWERA. Yesterday morning Mr. R. Campbell, whose farm is bounded on one side by the cliffs at the Waihi beach, reported to the Hawera police that he had found some wreckage on the Waihi beach. Consequently the police, with a small party, visited the scene and found a portion of the side of what appeared to have been a sailing voesel. The wreckage measured 30ft. x Oft. and was composed mostly of Oregon pine.- Two Bft x 6ft pieces of Californian rosewood were attached to the side, and were apparently a portion of the deck. The limber was all sound and the green paint on the side, together with a coat of tar. was still visible. Judging by the barnacles with which it was covered the wreckage had evidently been in the water for some months. No name was visible or anything else that might have led to identification, and whether the wreckage will help to solve another of the mysteries of the mighty deep remains to be seen. •-Star.
