BOWLING.
TOURING NEW ZEALANDERS. SOME RETURN HOMS. Bi Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, August 26. The first of the New Zealand bowlers who toured Britain to return to the Dominion arrived by the Makura this morning. They were: Mr and Mrs. ,1. K. Rankin (Auckland), 11. Frost (Wellington) and G. Grant (Oamaru). A good few of the party will be leaving Engine 7 this month and a few will not be back until Christmas time.
Mr. Rankin said they had had a wonderful trip. The people of the Old Country received them witli open arms. When the tour was undertaken it was intended to play 30 games in ten weeks, but instead they finished with 58 games. The team was very successful, 54 official and 4 unofficial games being played, out of which total New Zealand won 37 and lost 21. On the whole tour tho number of shots scored by the New Zealanders was 6262, as against 6007 credited to the United Kingdom, a majority of 255 in favor of the Colonials. The standard of play at Home is considered by Mr. Rankin just about the same as In New Zealand, but their greens were a great disappointment to our people. This was rather a surprise, as it wa,s expected something extra special would he found; instead of that, greens that would compare with what would be called a good green in New' Zealand could be counted on the fingers of one hand. On some of them tlie New Zealand bowlers would not think of playing, said Mr. Rankin.
