NEW HEBRIDES.

QUESTION OF FUTURE CONTROL.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received August 23, 9.40 p.m. London, August 22.

Mr. W. M. Hughes, while in France, en route for home, will discuss with the French Government the future of the New Hebrides, the British authorities having commissioned him to conduct negotiations, after discussion by the Committee of the Imperial Conference. Mr. Hughes to-day met M. Lambert, representing the Colonial Office, regarding the details. It is known that the condominium is generally unsatisfactory, and all concerned favor some rearrangement. It is unofficially suggested the proposal may be made for France to surrender her interest in consideration for the cancellation of a portion of her debt to Britain.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

[The New Hebrides aYe at present under the joint control of Great Britain and France.]
