HUNTING.
NORTH TARANAKI HOUNDS THE FINAL MEET. The North Taranaki Hunt held its final meet of the present season at the homestead of the master (Mr. A. H. Halcombe), "Ferngrove,” ! Urenui, on Saturday afternoon. The weather ! was beautifully fine, but the attendance was not so large as had beeri expected, and must have been a source, of disappointment to Mr. Halcombe, who had prepared io .-ntertain a big crowd. A splendid luncheon was served at ’’Fcrtigrove," and later an adjourament was made to Mr, Sheard’s property nearby, where the hounds threw off. Owing to the ; fact that many hunters are in training for the forthcoming meeting to be hold under the auspices of the ’hunt, the number of followers was not so large as usual, but still some very good jumping was witnessed. The, company subsequently returned to "Ferngrove” and again enjoyed the hospitality of the master. On behalf of the hunt and visitors generally, Mr. B. H. Chaney (deputy-master) extended cordial thanks to tlie master for his kindness, not only on this occasion, but also on the occasion of the visit of the Springboks. Mr. Halcombe was hospitable to a degree and a very fine sport, and it was ft matter for congratulation on the part of the hunt that they had a man pt’ his type as master. All sincerely hoped that Mr. Halcombe would continue to fill the position for many years to come. Mr. Halcombe, in response, said he appreciated the kindly remarks of Mr. Chaney and assured those present that it. always gave him a great deal of pleasure to de anything he could to further the interes of the hunt and make its meeting enjoyable. Continuing, Mr. Halcombe said he felt it would be a good thing for the hunt to change its master periodically, and whilst l e appreciated Mr. Chaney’s remarks, he did not think he would accept the position for another year. (Cries of "Out of order.”) He took | the opportunity of. fiianking rhe farmers for allowing the use of their properties, and specially thanked Mr. Shcard. whom lie described as one of the best of sports, and whose property be said was always open to the hunt whenever it liked to use it. Mr. Halcombe also spoke of .the kindness of tho ladies in assisting him with the entertainment off the visitors, and said he very keenly ap-! predated their efforts. Cheers were given for Mr. Halcombe, for' the ladies, and for the farmers for allowing i the hunt .he use of their properties.
