NEWTON KING, LTD. REPORTS, At Douglas on August 15 almost the whole of a good yarding of sheep and cattle was cleared at the hammer, the market remaining unchanged. Fat wethers 13s 3d, ewes in lamb 6s 6d, 10s, store cows 15s, yearling steers 16s, 20-month do. 28s, empty heifers £4 10s, £6 6s, yearling do. 245, 295, better quality do. £3, £4 10s, in-calf heifers £6 10s, in-calf cows £5, dairy cows £lO, £ll 10s, £l5, Jersey do. £l7 10s, £2O 10s. On the same day at Oakura we conducted a clearing sale on account of Mr. F. S. Watson. There was a large attendance of buyers and a satisfactory sale resulted, the! herd of 56 cows, which were chiefly Holsteins and Shorthorns, averaging £l3 ss. Yearling heifers were keenly sought after, making £2 6s, £3 16s 6d. up to £7 Is. Implements and sundries realised full values. At Stony Biver on the 16th inst. a full yarding came forward and a much improved market was in evidence throughout. Enquiry for yearling heifers was especially keen, whilst empty heifers and good meaty cows also sold at advanced rates. In the dairy section there was also a notable improvement, both heifers and cows In good condition and close up being readily sought after. A line of exceptionally choice 2-year Jersey heifers on account of Mr. G. H. Bell, of Oakura, sold up to £27, the line averaging just on £24. Yearling steers 21s, store cows 20s, 295, better sorts £2 7s 6d, £3 10s, fat cows £7 14s, sound empty cows £4 ss, £4 10s, empty teifors £4 6s, £5 6s, Jersey do. £7 ss, yearling heifers 255, 365, well grown do. £2 9s, £2 19s 6d, £4 3s Gd, Jersey do. £5, £7 12s, springing heifers £B, £9, £lO 10s to £l3, extra choice quality Jersey do. £2l to £27, springing cows £8 10s, £lO, £ll ss, better quality do. £l4, £l5 10s, £lB, cows in profit £7 10s, £lO.
At Bell Block on August 17 we conducted a most successful clearing said on account of Mr. H. C. Bishop. Bidding was spirited throughout, the high average of £lB being obtained for the herd of 18 cows, which were chiefly Jerseys, but showing a fair amount of age and in rather low condition. Pigs, sundries and implements sold well. Springing heifers made £9 10s to £l7, yearling heifers £4 4s, £4 12s 6d, pedigree Jersey bull 42 guineas, sows and Utters up to £lO, purebred boar 6 guineas. At Waiwakaito on the 18th a crowded yarding came forward, and a complete clearance was effected. The store market was considerably brighter, particularly so for yearling and empty heifers. The entry of dairy cattle was exceptionally heavy, and with few exceptions only of moderate quality throughout. Enquiry was firm and steady nevertheless, and practicaJly a full clearance was made. Store cows 20s, 355, £2 15s, better sorts £2 7s, £3 2s, £3 10s, fat heifers £7 15s, yearling steers 17s 6d, 21s, yearling heifers 355, £2 18s 6d to £3 3s, Jersey do. £4 17s Gd, £6 12s, empty heifers £8 5s to £lO 10s, more forward do. £l2, £l4 10s, £l5 10s, springing cows aged and inferior £7 10s, £9, better quality do. £l2 to £l5, Jersey do. £l6 to £22, cows in profit £lO 10s to £2O. At Rahotu on the same day we conducted a most successful sale on account of Mr. Tom Fleming. Buyers were in attendance from all parts of the coast, also from South Taranaki, and the sale was one contested with exceptional liveliness throughout. The herd consisted of, for the most part, nice types of Jerseys in good condition, young and close to profit, the herd of 46 eventually averaging the record figure of £24 6s 6d. £43 and £39 10s were the highest prices of the day, whilst many cows sold over £3O, 30 head averaging £2B 2s Gd. Pigs, horses and sundries sold at ruling rates. At Uruti on August 19 we report a good yarding of sheep and cattle, and a good clearance of the entry eventually changed hands. Cattle sold mostly at par rates. Dairy cattle sold very well, the offering including some good quality cows and heifers. 2-tooth wethers Bs, 4 and 6-tooth do. 10s, 12s Id, hoggets 6s sd, 7s 7d, ewes 10s, store cows £2 Is, £2 8s 6d, £3 12s, forward cows £4 Bs, 2-year-old steers £2 12s fid, 3-year do. £3 5s Gd, £3 Ils Cd, , in-calf heifers £5 15s, £7, dairy heifers £9 10s, £lO 7s Gd, better quality do. £ll Is, £l2 ss, dairy cows £9 15s, £l5, better quality do. £l6 ss, £lB 10s. HAMILTON STOCK MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— At Hamilton on Thursday, August 18, we yarded 300 head of cattle, 400 sheep and 250 pigs, practically the whole of which was cleared. The quality of the beef was a great improvement on recent sales and met with strong competition, values advancing considerably. Best bullocks made to £l4 12s 6d, medium £lO to £ll 15s, lighter weights £8 to £8 17s 6d, fat cows made to £l5 ss, for an extra prime heifer from Mr. F. R. Seddon. Ordinary '£6 12s 6d to £7 17s 6d, light weight and plain quality £4 15s to £5 ss, forward £3 17s Gd to £4 10s. A line of forward steers from the West Coast drew good bidding, makipg up to £8 16s, smaller frames £5 15s to £6 6s, 2-year and yearling cattle varied little from the previous weekj values being low throughout. 18-months to two-year steers £2 4s to £3 2s, heifers same age (small) £4 12s fid. yearling steers £2, heifers £2 15s to £4 ss, small yearlings mixed £1 to £1 10s. In the sheep section competition was also more spirited and values advanced. Best wethers realised up to 255, lighter weight 19s 6d to 21s, forward 16s to 17s 6d, store lambs 6s to 8s 6d. Pigs were again in good supply, but hardly reacted last weeks values. Baconers made to £5 Us, porkers £3 to £4 2s Cd, slii>s 25s to £2 ss, weaners 9s to 17s Gd.
