FIRE ON THE SAXON.

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE PROBABLE. Br Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright Capetown, August 19. A private cable from Sierra Leone indicates that' the situation of the steamer Saxon was more serious than at first supposed. When the vessel arrived at Sierra Leone the sides were radiating heat. The passengers had abandoned their cabins and were sleeping on the decks. The omokc during the last few days of the voyage was dense enough to render the decks like a London fog. The damage is probably extensive. General Smuts and Sir Thomas Smartt will probably transfer to the Kenilworth. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
