JAPAN DEFEATS INDIA. TO PLAY AUSTRALASIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright Received August 21, 5.5 p.m. Chicago, August 19. Japan won the semi-finals of the Davis Cup contest in its match against India, Shirnidzu and Kumagae (Japan)) defeating Sleem and Eyzee (India), 6—l, 6—l, 2—6, 2—6, 6—o. The Indians were outclassed in the first two sets. They made a gallant recovery to gain a tie in the fourth set, but were unable to hold the pace. Japan exhibited slashing tennis, and won the last set easily. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. New York, August 20. In the final singles Kunoge (Japan)* defeated Fyzee (India) 3 —6, 6—3, 6—3, 9—7, and Shirnidzu (Japan) defeated Sleem (India) 7—6, 2—6, 6—o, 6—2. (Japan now plays Australasia, and the winners meet the United States, the holders, in the challenge round.)
