CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, August 20. In the New Zealand cross-country championships the individual champion proved to be Moore (Wellington). The teams’ race resulted: Wellington 1, Otago 2, Canterbury 3. Sealed handicap: Dentice (Wellington) 1, Morrison (Canterbury) 2. MEETING OF TARANAKI CENTRE. A meeting of the Taranaki Centre of the Taranaki Athletic and Cycling Union was held At Kaponga on Thursday night. Present: — Messrs. Hansen (chairman), Nuttall, Burke, Malone, Patterson, Manly, and Melville (secretary). A letter was received from tl:e Normanby Club re registration, and the secretcry was instructed to write and explain the ruling. A letter was received from Messrs, ypurdle and Gibbs, of Inglewood, who helped as ©facials at the Kaimata sports, wishing to have their disqualifications removed.—This was granted. A list of all competitors was handed in to the executive who competed at the same sports, all of which were disqualified. Since then several of tte competitors who found they were disqualified applied to have the disquaH. cation removed. The applications were granted. It is now open for any of those who have not applied to do so before the annual meeting, which takes place at Eltham on about September 22. H. L. Slight and T. Walker were both disqualified for life for a serious breach of the rules, and all registered clubs were asked to make a note of same, There were twenty-four clubs registered this season, a large increase on last year, and the executive were informed that more would be forthcoming this year because clubs can see the centre is out to play the game for the betterment of sport. It was decided to apply to the New Zealand body, which holds its meeting at Dunedin this year on September 14, for the right to hold the championship meeting in Taranaki this coming season. Several clubs b ave intimated that they are giving the prize money for same of the events. Eltham was granted September 22 for a cycle road race, also Boxlag Day for a sports XMVtiOg.
