The Rarawa arrived from Onehunga early yesterday morning with passengers and 218 tons of cargo including 18 tons of sugar. The vessel sailed again at 8.20 p.m. On Tuesday the Rimu will take up the Rarawa’s running and will continue for about a month. DURHAM ARRIVES. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Durham arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and was brought alongside the wharf at 11 o’clock by Captain Waller, harbormaster. The Durham is visiting this port for the first time. Built in 1904, she is a vessel of 6975 tons gross, and 5295 tons net register, with a length over all of 420 feet. Captain Haines, who is in command, succeeded to the position on the death of Captain Watkins, which occurred while 'the vessel was at Montreal recently. Captain Haines was formerly at New Plymouth as chief officer on the Whakatane. The vessel is taking in 15,000 freight carcases of meat here, and will be In port about four days. CORINNA TO-MORROW. The Corinna is expected to leave Wellington to-day for New Plymouth, and should arrive here to-morrow with 1000 tons of general cargo to discharge. KAITUNA FROM NEWCASTLE. The Union Company advise that the Kaituna. was scheduled to leave Newcastle yesterday with a cargo of coal. She should arrive at New Plymouth about Thursday. THE DORSET REPORTED. The Federal Line received a wireless message on Thursday from the Dorset, en route from Liverpool, stating that the vessel will arrive at Auckland on Monday. After putting out part cargo at the northern port the Dorset will go to Wellington, where she is due about next Monday week. The vessel will subsequently call at Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth to coimplete discharge. The date of her arrival here is uncertain. MAKURA FROM VANCOUVER. Advice received by the Union Company states that the mail steamer Makura, en route from Vancouver, reached Honolulu on Saturday, and resumed ter voyage the same day. She is due at Suva on Monday, and at Auckland on the morning of the 26th inst. The Makura Is timed to leave Auckland on the evening of August 26 for Sydney. MANUKA FROM SYDNEY. To-day the Union Company's inter-colonial passenger steamer Manuka is to sail from Sydney for Wellington direct, and is due at Wellington next Wednesday. The vessel will leave Wellington on the return trip to Sydney next Monday week, the 29th instant. WORLD’S LARGEST SAILER. HUGE FIVE-MASTED BARQUE.
The world’s largest sailing vessel, the fivemasted French barque France, 5633 tons, arrived in the stream at Wellington on Thursday night from Lyttelton to complete her loading for London. The France arrived at Lyttelton on June 25 from Newport, Wales, with a full cargo of coal for the Railway Department. Tte France is a magnificent looking vessel, presenting a rare spectacle at sea with her vast expanse of canvas and elegant lines. She is nearly double the tonnage of the Scales Company’s four-masted barque Rewa (the largest British sailing vessel afloat), which happens to be lying at the Railway wharf in port at Wellington. The France’s five masts measure about 200 ft. from the deck to the trunk. The vessel 13 equipped with wireless telegraphic apparatus, a powerful steam-steering engine, and a large steam doukey-boiler for supplying power for driving tho electricity generators, cargo winches, capstans and windlasses.
