THE HIDE MARKET. I | NEWTON KING, LTD’S REPORT. Newton King, Ltd., report: On Tuesday, August IG, we held our monthly sale of hides and skins to a good attendance of buyers. Our catalogue comprised 1218 hides, 156 calfskins, 50 tins tallow, and 2000 sheepskins. Competition was very brisk, both tanners and exporters operating freely, and the result was a very satisfactory sale. Heavy and medium ox advanced 2’£d to 3d per lb., light ox Id, cow %d to Id, yearlings 4d, calfskins 4d. and tallow 5s per cwt. Sheepskins are very dull of sale, and only a fow dry lots were sold. are well advised to send their calf- | skins to our sales and get market rates under { competition. Us to 19s; cowtails, per dozen. HIDE AND SKIN SALE. IMPROVED PRICES. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. conducted their monthly sale of hides and skins at New Plymouth on Tuesday’ List. There was a good attendance of buyers and a very good catalogue was offered. Prices for all lines snowed a decided improvement, particularly crtlf skins. Sound realised from 16 7-Sd per lb. to 17 7-8 d per lb., cut 11 7-8 d per lb., and slippy 9d per lb. The variation in prices according to quality should afford convincing testimony to fanners as to the desirability of properly flaying and curing the skins. The best price obtained for calf skins at rhe previous month’s sale wns per lb. Heavy ox realised up to 13 3-8 d per lb., light and average weight (?ovv and ox also showed a slight improvement. Yearlings hardened considerably, bringing from 10 : 3-8d to 11 1-Sd, as against 4d to - 7d.
