THE MEAT MARKET. PRICES AT WESTFIELD. Br Telaararih.—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. At Westfield markets to-day beef was in short supply. Prime showed a decided advance on last week's rates. Extra choice ox £1 18s, prime £1 17s to £1 19s, plain £1 10s to £1 ss; cow, extra prime £1 19s, prime £1 10s to £1 4s, unfinished 17s Gd to 12s Gd. Sheep.—Medium yarding, quality better than usual, prices about on a par with previous week. Extra heavy wethers 355, primo 23s Vd to 20s, unfinished 19s to 16s; ewes (extra good) 19s; prime 18s to 14s, others 12s 6d to 8s Gd. , Calves.—A fair yarding of good sorts met • . h a ready sale. Runners £6 to £4 10s, venters £4 10s to £2 10s, fresh dropped 10s to r.s. Pigs.—A good yarding and prices firm. Bnconers £6 10s to £5 10s, choppers £6 10s to £5, porkers £4 10s to £2 10a.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED RETORT. Tho Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 13, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—• MEAT. Beef market firmer, but mutton and lamb market shows signs of weakness owing to quicker discharge at docks and to good supply of Scotch lamb, which is selling nt average price of Is 4d per lb.
