Y.W.C.A.
At the request of some of the residents of Otaki, a Young Women’s Christian Association has recently been organised there by Alias Florence Birch, New Zealand Y.W.C.A. National Field Secretary. Already a club, which is called the Blue Triangle Community Club, and provides activities for both men and women, has met with a most enthusiastic response, showing clearl.y the need that existed in Otaki for such an organisation. Over one hundred people were present at the opening meeting, seventy of whom agreed to unite to form a choral club uhder the capable leadership of Mrs. Stable, formerly Miss Josephine Ottlee, of Christchurch. Educational classes, such as millinery, first*aid, home nursing, etc., are being planned for the girls, and a recreation committee is looking forward eagerly to arranging outdoor activities end sports for the young people. It is hoped that the club will accomplish more than the one purpose of good fellowship, for the programme of weekly /meetings will cover many useful things as well as provide avenues of service for the girlsfi As this club is self-governing, with officers electexl from among themselves, it is also a splendid place of training for future leadership.
