SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the executive of the Taranaki School Committees’ Association was held a| the Technical College, New Plymouth, last night,'when there were present Messrs. S. G. Smith, M.P. (Central), president, in the chair, J. W. Downes (Bell Block), W. 11. Robertshaw (Central), W. K. Morris (Oakura), J. Garcia (West End), Rev. Avery (Kaponga), and W. G. Reid (honorary secretary). Apologies were received from the Rev. J. F. Martin ’ (Fitzroy) and Mr. F. J. Hodges (Dudley). The chairman stated that since the conference he 'had attended a couple of meetings at Hawera, where there was every prospect of a very strong branch being formed. He had also promised to pay a visit to Eltham and address the annual meeting of that branch on Friday evening. The Rev. Avery stated that thbre was a proposal to form a branch at Kaponga, but he did not think this would interfere in any way with the Eltham branch. It was stated that there was a total roll number of 10,000 school children in the Taranaki district, and even at the moderate levy of Id the association should be placed in a financial position that would enable it to continue its good work. In the past they had had several lectures given by leading educationists, and if branches were formed in different centres these could be resumed. In connection with.#matters concerning books and agriculture, referred by the annual conference to the executive, it was resolved that a committee, consisting of the Rev. J. F. Martin and Messrs. Robertshaw and Morris, should confer with the Education Board and report at a future meeting. Messrs. S. G. Smith, M.P., and R. Masters, M.P., were appointed delegates to the annufil conference of the New Zealand School Committees’ Association, to be held in Wellington in October. It was resolved to hold meetings of the executive on the second Monday in each month.
