THE TRAMWAYS.
OPERATIONS IN JULY’. INCREASE OF REVENUE. The revenue earned by the New Plymouth tramways during July shows an increase of £llB 10s Bd, and 9887 additional passengers were carried, as compared with the operations in July of 1920. The total receipts from fares were £1533 Ils lid, of which £B7 7s 7d was from the Morley Street route, and £1446 4s 4d from the main route. The number of passengers carried was: Main route 133.494; Morley Street, 11,883; total, 144,377. In his monthly report to the council, T*he manager (Mr. R. H. Bantley) states— k The delivery of the three Birney safety cars was made about the middle of the month. The erection work should be completed towards the end of the month. Arrangements will then be made for the Government inspection, and, as soon as this is completed, and the license issued, the cars will be put into traffic and operated in the ordinary way, until such time as the alterations in the running condi■tions can be drawn up, submitted and approved by the council. ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT. The applications received during the month number 29, the connections 20, and the additions 12. These connections and additions are, of course, applications received prior to the council’s instructions that no further new applications were to be connected, etc. We have still a number of these on our register, which are to be connected as soon as the installations are ready. The number is 87. The Waiwakaiho river has been in flood on four occasions during the month, but no damage has Occurred at the head-works. The previous damage, as reported, has been partly repaired and protected. The whole of the plant is working satisfactorily, and I have no irregularities to report. ELECTRIC ’BUS SERVICE. The revenue received from this service during the month is £llB 16s Id, and the passengers carried are 10,721, made up as under:—Westown, 6147; Frankley Road, 494; Vogeltown, 4080; total, 10,721. These figures represent an increase, over those for last July of £23 15s 2d, and 2571 additional passengers. The mileage run by the ’bus during the month is 2218 miles.
