ALLIES IN COUNCIL.
PROBLEM OF GERMANY. ENFORCING THE SANCTIONS. TO WITHDRAW SOME. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 15, 7.45 p.m. Paris, August 14 The concluding session of the Supremo Council discussed the disarmament of Germany. Marshal Foch submitted a resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the inter-Allied Military Commission, proposing the continuation of the commission’s control. After a lengthy discussion, a resolution was adopted for maintaining tha commission, but contemplating a gradual progressive withdrawal. The Council resolved in favor of raising the economic sanctions, conditional on Germany meeting all her obligations by August 31. The military sanctions will be maintained. Lord Curzon declared that Britain did not contemplate that the sanctions would remain in force three months after the acceptance of the ultimatum. He suggested that Germany had given proof of her goodwill, and a term should be fixed for occupation, with the progressive withdrawal of troops. M. Briand justified continued occupation on the ground that Germany had not yet displayed a tendency to fulfil the reparations demands without an Allied demonstration in force.. France was anxious to abandon occupation as soon as possible.—Reuter Service. THE SILESIAN QUESTION. TIMES ALLEGES FAILURE. London, August 13. The Times, in a leader, comments that the Supreme Council’s evasion of the Silesian question is the greatest failure of its existence, and a confession of bankruptcy.
