FALL CAUSES DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Asrzjciation. Auckland, August. 15. James A. Craig, who fell from the top of a tramway pole on Saturday, died in hospital. PIERCED BY A CROWBAR. Gisborne, August 15. Leslie Jeffers, aged 21, employed on road construction work at Wharerata, dropped the crowbar with which he was working at the top of a bank 12 feet above the road. The crowbar stood upright in the soft earth, and Jeffers, who slipped down the bank, became impaled on the bar, which went right through his body, entering at bis thigh and coming out at the shoulder blade. It required the efforts of two strong men to remove the bar. Jeffers was brought to the town hospital, but succumbed on Sunday afternoon. CHILD KILLED BY MOTOR. Christchurch, August 15. Kathleen Mary Archer, aged 12 years, while returnijjg from the city with her mother, after attending a picture entertainment, was knocked down by a motor car after alighting from the train at Addington. She was conveyed to the hospital, but. died shortly after admission. MOTOR-CAR CRASH. ■ Hamilton, August 15. When Leonard Hardcastle, taxi-driver, was driving a party along the Karamu Road he took too wide a sweep when approaching the bridge, with the result that the car crashed through the rail and fell fifteen feet into the water and overturned. A passenger, Ivan Watters, rescued the driver and a lady passenger. No trace, however, was found of Hardcastle’s two-year-old child, who apparently floated down the river and was drowned.
