It was glorious weather and the wlclret was fast. The aggregate attendance was a record for the ground. Replying to criticism, Armstrong said hp was perfectly justified in not declaring the innings closed. He was there to make the whole tour a success, not one particular match. Biclanore and Hardinge resumed to the bowllug of Gregory and McDonald. Runs came freely, but Blckmore had some lucky snicks off McDonald, and should hare been caught by Carter at 31. Gregory also missed him. McDonald bowled an excellent length and rose high, but Bickraore’s height neutralised matters. Ho reached his half-century in 85 minutes, dispatching McDonald for three fours in one over, and Annstronog for two, with another off Ryder, who relieved McDonald. Continual changes were made in the field to check the brisk scoring. The century was added In 70 minutes. Mailey then relieved Armstrong, and Ryder steadied the scoring with tho off tteory. Hardinge reached 50 in half 'an hour, and then lost Bickmore. who returned one to Mailey, after hitting seventeen fours, a fine all-round display which was warmly applauded. The partnership realised 154, which is the highest recorded against the Australians. Hardinge played Ryder on when te had made 74. At times he was brilliant. He. played correct, cricket, with not one mistake, and notched seven fours. At luncheon the score was four for 190. Before resuming Armstrong placed a wreath on tho base of tho fountain memorial to Colonel Blythe, the famous Kentish bowler, wh? was killed in action In 1917, as a tribute from the Australians. After lunch the weather turned dull and a change camo over the game. Tte batting completely collapsed, only Wood offering any resistance to Ryder and Malley. The last six wickets fell for 55 runs. The Australians went in again and. at the drawing of stumps, had lost four wickets for 119. The score was:— AUSTRALIA. Second Innings. Collins, b Hardinge 56 Pcilew, c G. Bryan, b Cornwallis 2 Mayne, c Woolley, b G. Bryan 1 Mailey, b Freeman 12 Ryder, not out -1 Armstrong, not out 22 Extras 5 Total (for four wickets) 119 Bowling analysis—Cornwallis tool!? one wicket for 12 runs, G. Bryan one for 9, Hardinge one for 45, Blckmore none for 23, Freeman one for 10, J. Bryan n-me for 15.

Collins and Pellew opened the Australians’ second Innings tn the bowling of Cornwallis and G. Bryan. Comment Is made on the fact that, the visitors did not approach Kent to reduce the play to two days, as In the case of the Warwickshire and Yorkshire matches, which were set down for. the days immediately preceding a test match. The spectators did not approve of. the Australians electing to go in again, which made a certainty of a drawn match, and there was ironical applause after each delivery by the bowlers during the first two overs, causing Troughton, the Kent captain, to address the noisy section of tho crowd. Pefiew, Mayne and Mailey foil cheaply, the score standing at three for 56 at tho tea adjournment, of which Collins had made 47. Ou resuming Collins and Ryder added 9 each, and the former was then bowled by Hardinge. Ryder and Armstrong played out time, and the match was drawn.
