DISTRICT NEWS.
MANGATOKL (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. and Mrs. A. Rogers were guests at a social and dance in the hall recently, a, number of friends gathering to bid them farewell on the eve of their departure for their new home near Wanganui, where we wish them every success. During the evening some eulogistic speeches were made, and Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were presented with a very handsome silver tray and tea service. The weather lately las been exceptionally cold and strormy, the west wind sweeping across with extraordinary velocity. Lowgarth and Mahoe were snow clad on Monday morning. There has been a slight wash out in the Doctor’s Drop, Eltham Road, which wduld have been very much worse had It not been promptly attended to.
The settlers’ ball, which was to have taken place last week, has been indefinitely postponed. The young ladies’ ball takes place on the 18th inst., and promises to be a great success, as most of these functions are.
Our local dairy factory which has been running only twice a week, has now started every day. The annual meeting of shareholders takes places on Wednesday, the 17th inst., when we hope a favorable balancesheet will be presented. We are sorry to hear that Mr. E. Reeve, general manager of the Mangatoki factory, is at present an inmate of a private hospital at Eltham, having this week, been operated on for appendicitis. He is making satisfactory progress.
Colds of a particularly bad form are prevalent in the district.
