MEDALS FOR EX-SOLDIERS.
PROGRESS OF DISTRIBUTION.
SOME MEN NOT TRACED.
By Telegraph —Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night. The Defence Department is making satisfactory progress in the distribution of war medals. The issue of the 1914-15 star has been completed as far as traceable recipients are concerned, but the department, has a surplus of two thousand medals and is unable to trace owners. Notices have been sent to all entitled to receive the decoration, in the case of death to the next-of-kin, and ip many cases there has been no response. Persons who have not received the medal are asked to communicate with the war medals branch.
The British war medal is now being distributed alphabetically at the rate of five hundred per day. Supplies of the victory medal will next receive attention. The Pakeha has a consignment of fifty thousand and the stamping and despatching of these will be undertaken as sbon as the general service medal is disposed of. Finally the clasps will be distributed.
