TOWN BEAUTIFYING. i (From Our Own Correspondent.) August 10. | A meeting or the Inglewood Beautifying i and Improvement Society was held on I j Tuesday evening. The society was repre- I ; seated by the president (Mr. J. R. Suther- I land), the honorary secretary (Mr. J. W. I Smith), and about nine members, including | ; two lady supporters—Mrs. Sutherland and i ; Miss Stevens. i ■ Mr. Sutherland read Mr. W. W. Smith’s i ■ report on his observation of the ground j ■ proposed to be affected. The members ' present resolved that Mr. Smith’s recommendations be submitted to the Domain Board, and that that body’s authority, subject to the Borough Council, be sought for the carrying out of the work*outlined jby Mr. Smith. It was also resolved that ! authority be sought from the Borough Council for fencing as required to protect this proposed plantation. On the motion of the president, seconded by Mr. T. Drake, it was decided to ask the Borough Council to appoint Mr. R. Stevens to have charge pf the carrying out of the tree-pruning and forestry work recommended by Mr. Smith. Thursday, August 18, was unanimously agreed upon as the day on which operations should begin, at 1.30 p.m. A very hearty vote of thanks to Mr. W W. Smithy for his valued advice, was j carried unanimously. i In regard to the advisability of holding a I social reunion in support of the society’s i funds, if was reported that the committee j had decided on September 6 as the most ! ' suitable date, when all who sympathise should demonstrate their sympathy tanjgibly by their presence at the Town* Hall.
