IN BANKRUPTCY.
FAILURE OF PLUMBERS. UNSECURED DEBTS £395. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Alessrs. Arthur George Hopkinson and Arthur Ernest Wakh, plumbers, of New Plymouth, was held at the 6ifice of the Deputy Official Assignee ('Mr. J. S. -S. Medley), New Plymouth, yesterday, eight creditors being present. The firm was adjudged bankrupt on July 29, 1921. The total debts, all unsecured, amounted to £595 15s. Following is a list .of the creditors:— Plumbers. Limited (Wellington). £204 Us 7d; Taylor’s, Ltd. (Wanganui), £94 5s 4d; Smart Bros. (New Plymouth), £157 16s Id: J. Abbott (New Plymouth), £55 14s 4d; J. B. McEwan (New Plymouth), £9; Jones and Co. (AVellington), £l6 8s; AJanning and Co. (Christchurch), £3 2s lOd; McMillan and Frederic (Stratford), £1 16s 6d; Shuttleworth Bros. (New Plymouth), 7fl; Rock and Lealaud (New Plymouth), £8 4s Id; AlcLeod and Slade (New Plymouth), £2; W. Olliver (New Plymouth), £22 os, 3d; A. G. Nixon (New Plymouth), £11: J. Noddor (New Plymouth), £1 13s 6d; F. P. Corkill (New Plymouth), £1 6s; A. B. AValdie (New Plymouth), £6; Boon Bros. (New Plymouth), 4s 6d. Against these unsecured liabilities, bankrupt’s statement showed aeeets amounting to t‘3o4 8s 7d, made up as follows:- Stock in trade estimated at £B4, book debts estimated to produce , £2M) 8s 7d, cash in hand £2O. In addiiioikto the firm’s debts, bankrupt’s statement .showed that Hopkinson owed £35 Jls'7d personal debts, and Walsh £29 5s 6d. Their only assets were a little furniture and tools, valued at £25 and £2O respectively. Under, oath, bankrupts stated that th- v commenced business as plumbers on July 19, 1920. without capital, their only assets at the time of starting being necessary tools. They had had no business experience, and were unable to keep proper bopks. They had spent a great deal of time in trying to collect debts, and to these causes they attributed their failure. Asked by Mr. Croker, who appeared for several creUitoiw. if they could make any offer for the liquidation of their debts, the bankrupts said they could not, as they had absolutely no assets, and their future position was very uncertain. Their statement hud accounted for the last penny. It was decided to call tenders for the purchase of the stock. Ale.ssrs. Abbott, Smart and Rock were appointed a committee to go further into bankrupt's affairs, and the meeting was then adjourned till August 23.
