Chinese advices state that the notorious General Hsu Shuchen, the leading spirit in the recent Yangtze disturbances, has escaped from Peking. When defeated he took refuge with other leaders in the Japanese Legation at Peking. The Chinese Government condemned the traitors to death and established a military cordon around the Legation. Hsu waa smuggled through the cordon in a trunk as officers’ luggage, and reached Japan, whence he returned to China and recommenced his depredations.—Aus.N.Z. Cable" Assn.
