A FINE CHARACTER.

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MRS. PENROSE BOYD. (Contributed.) Very many in New Plymouth and out of it will hear with the deepest regret of the passing away of Mrs. Penrose Boyd at a private hospital early on Sunday evening. She was one of the unselfish of the earth, and it might be truly said of her that she had. “a heart > at leisure from itself, to soothe and sympathise.” Even when her health declined a- few months ago, she bravely ' went on with her work, showing the greatest pluck and endurance, and over thinking of others before herself. Dur- 1 ing the war she was a tower of strength in work for the soldiers, and her busy hands were never idle, if anything were needed for them. Latei’ on she transferred. her activities to the Victoria League, where she did valiant service.

St. Mary’s Sewing Guild, too, found in her a most useful helper, and will miss her ever ready interest in it<s affairs and in those of her church.

The world' is poorer for the loss of such women, and the sympathy of all goes out to her husband and little girl in this time of sorrow anu stress. She was laid to rest at Te Henui yesterday afternoon, amid a wealth of the choicest and most beautiful flowers, among them being wreaths from St. Mary’s” Guild, the Victoria League, and the firm of Burgess, Fraser and Co.
