RECIPROCITY URGED.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph —-Frpss Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Hon. E. P. Leo. who returned to New Zealand from Samoa to-day, via Sydney, by the Manuka, stated the establishment in the Dominion of a purchase board to co-ordinate, simplify and reduce the cost of purchases of goods used by the State Departments is occasioning a good deal of interest in Sydney. A similar proposal is discussed there and the officials concerned are very anxious to obtain copies of the Now Zealand scheme and the regulations issued regarding it. “From Sydney inquiries and interviews,” stated Mr. Lee. “there appears to be a barrier existing between Australia and New Zealand in trade and many other matters. I addressed by invitation the students of the Sydney University and incidental references made to the relations between the Commonwealth and the Dominion were very favorably commented on by those taking a deep interest m the two countries. There is scope and need for close reciprocal relations in trade, customs, pensions and other important directions, and I feel negotiations between New Zealand and the Commonwealth should be opened up.”
