The presidential address of the president of the Farmers’ and Settlers’ conference advocated, as a protest against the forty-four hours week and the fixing of meat prices, a strike of farmers and pastoralists. Parer is rapidly recovering and expects to resume his flight around Australia in ten or twelve days.—Aus.-NJZ. Cable Aasn. NEW SHIPPING SERVICE. Received August 8, 8.15 p.m. Sydney, August 8. The Commonwealth Government’s subsidised service between Fijian ports and the United Kingdom was inaugurated on Saturday, when the steamer Bulla left Sydney for Suva, where she loads copra and general merchandise and. proceeds to London and Hull, via Panama.—Aus.N.Z.
