An exceptionally rough trip from the Chathams was experienced by the ' steamer Rama, which reached here this i morning. Owing to heavy southerly gales at the islands, tho Rama was unable to load a full cargo of fish, and left on the island several passengers. The ’starboard cable parted while at Waiangi. The vessel left Mangaroa at 3 o’clock on Sunday afternoon in a strong north-westerly gale, and the boat began to roll and pitch heavily. Similar conditions prevailed next day. and then the gale increased to a hurricane. Chi Thursday, at 12.45 a.m., the Castlepoint light was sighted, and the master sought shelter at Te Awaiti, and [with two anchors out rode Out the hur--ricane. At 4.40 a.m. he continued the ; rotam to WoUbKtoa.
