GERMANY AND CHINA.
TRADE AGREEMENT SIGNED.

Mr. Cecil Harmsworth (Under-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs), replying to questions in the House of Commons, said Germany, on July 1, signed a trade
agreement with China under which the parties agree to exchange diplomatic and commercial representatives. Germany renounces her claim for Consular jurisdiction in China, but obtains the rights of travel and residence, and to engage in industry and commerce in those places open to nationals of other Powers. Germans, while subject in principle to the Chinese tariff laws, will continue to benefit by the conventional ' tariff applying to the Treaty Powers ! until a Chinese national tariff is created. Liquidation of war and other debts is provided for.—Aus.-N.Z.* Cable Assn.
