POSTMISTRESS CHARGED By Telegraph — Press Association. Christchurch, August 3. The. Supreme Court is engaged in hearing a charge against Julia Marie Fitzgerald, forinerly postmistress at Blackball, of opening a postcard add | ressed to a resident, J. Gilmer. The | prosecution alleged that accused took ‘.he postcard into the telephone room fund, when she came but, remarked: ‘-‘lt was from one of Jack’s (Gilmer’s) old girls, who had enclosed a pound note. She then seeded the postcard. Gilmer was informed of the episode by another employee, and an inquiry was held by the Department. Accused regretted opening the postcard, but stated it hud been her habit to deal with Gilmer’s correspondence w : th his knowledge. The cafe liad not concluded when the Court rose. LEAGUE OF NATIONS’ UNION Dunedin, Last N ( ight. A large and enthusiastic meeting yas held here to-night, when an eloquent address was delivered by Professor Pringle, of Otago University, who read the following cable from Lord Robert Cecil: “The support of world public opinion is the League’s greatest need: I welcome the formation of a New Zealand League of Nations’ Union.” At the cloee of an eloquent, and powerfully convincing address the meeting heartily agreed to form a branch of the League of Nations’ Union and set up a strong representative committee to give effect to the resolution. INSOLVENT NATIVE’S ESTATE. Wellington, Last Night. The question of whether an estate of an insolvent native after death may be administered in bankruptcy was the subject of an important judgment by Mr. Justice Sim (acting Chief Justice) today. He held that a portion of the Administrative Act applied to the estates of natives. MAN DROPS DEAD. Wellington, Last Night. The superintendent of police has received information that William Robinson, aged ’ 70, dropped dead at his residence at Upper Hutt yesterday.
