SUPREME COURT.

CHARGE OF MURDER. Telegraph —-Press Association. Christchurch, August 3. In the Supreme Court Hilda Louisa Burgess, 16 years, was charged with the murder of an illegitimate child to which she bad given birth in a room at a hotel. She pleaded not guilty. Prisoner was employed as a domestic servant. No one was present when the birth occurred. The body of the child, showing incised wounds was found tn a basket after she left the hotel. The defence raised was (1) that the child was not bom alive; (2) that if accused committed the act she was insane at the time and did not know the quality of the act; (3) the evidence was insufficient to connect accused with killing the child.
