CORRESPONDENCE.

A FALSE STATEiMENT CORRECTED. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Will you kindly allow me space in your valuable paper to correct a statement which is being circulated iu connection with a meeting called by .une* for discussion on the proposed memorial to our "Fallen Soldiers.” You can imagine my surprise at finding no one sufficiently interested to attend the meetmb, but my surprise has been turned • to indignation since being told that while the meeting was called for the above object, a report has been circulated that the matter under discussion would be the holding of a valedictory social for Mr. and Mrs. Cameron. Who is responsible for such- a gross mis-state-ment is not for mo to say, but I believe the residents of Pungarehu to a man will contribute towards the proposed ’memorial, and I also hope for support from those interested who have left this district. The committee Intend shortly to hold a ball to raise funds for this object, and further, I am sure neither Mr. or Mrs. Cameron are looking for a sendoff. They have done their little bit for Pun'garetu without reward, or the hope of reward. As fa; as I am concerned, I never have and never shall favor valedictory socials.—l am, etc., ELIZA A. MATHEWS. Puugarehu, August 1, 1921. HARBOR CONSTRUCTION V. MISCONSTRUCTION. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Mr. D. K. Morrison’s letter doe not touch the point at issue. He being an advocate for the Mlkotahi-Moturoa wall, which is tantamount to an outer harbor, would he be so kind as to set out in detail the benefit to be derived therefrom, time and amount of material required for its construction, particulars of the approximate cost and the method he would asopt in its building? Also a full report Is required dealing. with faults pertaining to Mr. Blair Mason’s plan. The above should not be a difficult task for "a marine engineer with twenty years’ experience.”—l am, etc., PIERRE F. BURROWS.
