PRICES FOR DAIRY PRODUCE.
SEVERAL BIDS FOR CHEESE, THE OFFER FROM ENGLAND. Thb announcement in yesterday’s Daily News of the offer from England for the Dominion# dairy produce created considerable interest throughout Taranaki. The message stated: “An offer nas been received from England for the Dominion output of cheese at a pirce of 11 %d per lb., being an advance of Jld per lb. on the highest price paid by the Imperial Government. An offer ha# also been received for the butter output till the end of October at a price of 2s Id per lb.” The message was yesterday referred to the chairman of the National Dairy Association (Mr. A. Morton). Mr. Mor-"’ ton said that the figure# mentioned were at practically the same level a# offers which had already been received by some factories. Though the telegram stated that an offer had been received from England for the Dominion output he did not think there was a possibility of all factories being approached, she meaning of the message being rather that the buyers were prepared to do bueiness with individual eompaniea on the terms mentioned. The price of ll%d per pound had been quoted to some directorates already for the output of cheese up to May 31 next. Mr. • Morton said he had heard no further information beyond that contained in the Press Association telegram.
Approached yesterday on the subject of prices for dairy produce, a New Plymouth business man in touch with th® industry said there was not much activity in the market as yet. Offer# for cheese outputs had been made in #everal instances at ll%d, but the highest figure he had heard in connection with butter quotations was Is lljd. He waa of the opinion that when companies generally were considering the prices offering this season the practice of celling outputs would probably be adopted more generally, rather than consigning on the open market.
