A SMALL FIRE.

OUTBREAK IN NEW PLYMOUTH. A fire occurred at about 9 o’clock last night in the furniture manufacturing premises of Messrs. W. R. Leighton and Sons, in Gover Street, New Plymouth. The brigade were quickly on the scene and the fire was extinguished, but considerable damage was done to the building and- the stock of furniture by fire and water. The fire was first discovered by someone at Boon Bro#.’ timber yards opposite and a fire hose kept bj them on the premises was employed in an attempt to extinguish the fire before the brigade arrived, but the hose proved to be too short to be of much use against the strong adverse wind. There is no suggestion as to the origin of the fire, but the building contained much highly inflammable material, such as shavings, etc., and this may have become ignited.
