FARMERS’ UNION.
• .RESOLUTIONS SUBMITTED TO MINISTERS. By T*l«j*rApli.--'Press Association. Wellington, July 30. 'A Farmers’ Union deputation placed the conference resolutions before Sir Francis Bell and Mr. Ntfsworthy. The speakers emphasised particularly the resolution regarding the Meat Trust. Sir Francis Bell' Mated that the. shipping proposals must await Mr. Massey’s return, as the Prime 2»linister, with his conference colleagues, desired this. Regarding the valuation resolutions. Sir Frauds Bell stated that, while agreeing that assessors should have the assistance of a man acquainted with a district, and that notice should be always given, he did not agree that values were excessive. The valuations had been
kept below values which owners placed upon their land, as was proved by the fact that only Government departments kept to Government valuations in lending. Cabinet would consider all the recommendations and see which could be dealt with by legislation in the coming session.
Mr. Nosworthy said that regarding trusts he understood the position of Vesteys and other companies operating here under conditions prevailing since the war and the termination of the commandeer. They had had to go carefully. The Government’s intention was to go carefully and be sure 'of its ground in placing Qie industry on a better foundation. Information was now being obtained regarding the differences between wholesale and retail prices,, but it could not all be done in a minute.
