LONDON WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 28. The wool sales have closed firm at the highest of the series. There were catalogued 163,550 bales, and about 15 per cent, were withdrawn. Thanks to keen Continental support, the opening decline on merinos and all good combings has been recorded; broadhaired or sixties closed al about opening rates, faulty and burry pieces were in strong demand at the June parity, fine crossbreds fully recovered the opening decline, medium and lower grades wore in good demand, but did not show material advance, slipe and seoureds sold irregularly, the more attractive parcels being keenly competed for at full opening rates. Lambs, a llimited selection, were eagerly bought and were very firm. Bradford.—Stagnant quotations; merinos nominally easier. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. Christchurch, July 29. Business in the hulk of grain and’produce lines is unusually dull. This is more applicable to oats, but nevertheless there is a fairly confident feeling, and prices no retrogression. A grade Gartons are quoted at 2s 9d, and B grade at 2s Bd. Very little is offering, but there Is a general opinion that the maintenance of the best values, is entirely dependent on the export trade. The chaff market is lifeless. Nominal quotations are about “£3 per ton t Potatoes have reached a stage when growers who have not yet dug are considering whether it is worth while to do so. Sales have actually been made at 37s 6d per ton f.o.b, S.I. A good demand exists for red clover, but the Home inquiry has improved prices here to such an extent that business for export has quietened. A few linseed orders serve to bump tnemarket, but when these are met there, is prompt sagging. The market has fluctuated; remarkably during the past two months.
