THE AUCKLAND MURDER.
SHROUDED IN MYSTERY
THE SEARCH FOR A MOTIVE, The Grey Lynn murder case is still baffling the police: so far no solution has .been found. The details .have been telegraphed by the Press Association,- and when one mentally recapitulates the incidents associated with this mysterious crime not a single one throws any light upon the gruesome affair.
ft is now eight da'ys since the dead body of the. young man Jew was found on the slope of the Arch Hill gully, juat off Great North Road, at Grey Lynn, and despite incessant inquiry ■work by the police no arrest has been made. engaged in the investigation are reticent at the present stage, but it seems certain that although they have greatly narrowed the scope of the inquiry by elimination, they have not. reached a stage likely to lead to definite action against any person. The position at present appears to be that a few minutes before 8 p.ui. on the Saturday, on a mild, and moderately clear moonlight night, young Jew took leave of a companion near, the old tram terminus at Grey Lynn, and was not seen or recognised again until 11.20 a.m. the following morning, when his dead ■ body was found on a sharp dip at the I back of a vacant section within a stone’s j throw of where he had been lasi seen alive.
When, how, or why he came to be at that particular place apparently cannot be explained by any of his regular companions, who have themselves accounted for all their movements on Saturday evening, both in relation t'o young Jew, and afterwards. The one thing that seems certain about the affair is that his presence at the spot was unpremeditated.
