TOWN BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On the 26th Inst, the monthly meets, ing of the Kaponga Town Board held. Present; Comrs. Allen, Goy* Betts and Shepherd. The old pound silo was leased to MrMelville at £5 per year. Considerable discussion tvok place ht connection with plots at the cemetery, •and it was finally decided to ask all who live within reach to keep their plots in order, the foreman to attend to those whose friends away from ibe district. The matter of procuring shrubs and plants for the cemetery antf Domain is to bo left in tin hauds of Comr. Betts. Tenders are to be co Hod for thti lease of the Domain on the Manaia Road.
The inspector handed in the exceeding the speed limit, and tho owners of these are to be warned, and if no notice i« taken, action will ba taken by the board.
FAREWELLS TO RESIDENTS. On Thursday 2b t inst. a farewell ' was tendered to Mr. aud Mrs. Candy I and family, and ?.fr. and Mr*. Wicklnro. The farewell t >ok the L»nn of « sitdown tea. followed by musical item and | speeches. Mr. and Mrs. Candy were pre-ented with a silver rose bowl, while Mr. and Mrs. Wickham received ft silver monn+'d tray ?. id eake’stand. On Sunday last Miss !/. Hoddinot was presented by the pupils of the Methoi dist Sunday School wth a beautiful Bible. The presentation was made by Mr. JTarding at the dose of the class* Mies Hoddinot has be r n a teacher in the school for some time, and will be much mi. ,cd by the little ones. At the smoke concert after the foot-* hall match on Saturday, Mr. Ward, on behalf of a lew of Mr Liston** friends, in a neat little speech, presented Mr. Liston with ft well-filled wallet. During the time Mr. Liston acted as om local constable he made many friends, who were sorry to see him leave, ami hone he will meet ” ith every success m his business in Man&ia.
TENNIS CLUB BALL, The Tennis Club Ball, held on Tuesday last, was in every way a suocnes. Excellent music was supplied by McCarty's orchestra.. The hall was tastefully decorated with tennis nets and racquets, while the stage was with paper streamers and cherry blossom. The supper was of tho best, and Mrs. Fearon, the secretary, deaervos credit for the way in whjfib she ai> raugad everything/
