WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, July 27. At the wool sales competition was keen for all classes at late rates.
London, July 27. Al tho mixed wool sales merinos were very firm at practically equal to opening prices. The Home trade was active. Medium and low crossbreds met with brisker demand, and prices were slightly in sellers’ favor. There were some withdrawals of fine crossbreds ow- . ing to the high limits. Prices obtained:— I Bexley, top price 15%d, average 15d; Carlingford 15d and 14%d; Moyall 23i/£.d and 18d; Carlindie ll%d and lid. Ta110w.—2474 casks offered and 1279 sold, i There #as little demand. Good fine mutton, j beef and other sorts were mostly cleared at I late rates, 1 GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. DEMAND FOR CLOVER. Christchurch, July 26. Generally the grain and produce market is very quiet Red clover is one of the few lines in which activity has been evinced. It has been improving steadily for some weeks, due principally to Homo inquiry. Good farmi ers’ undressed seed is worth up to 10’f-d at country stations. White clover Is firming in : i sympathy. A demand has also set in for both Italian and perennial ryegrass, and business at equal to 4s to farmers has been done in both seeds. Oats remain unchanged In value, but little business is passing. Newton King, Ltd.’s yards at Ingrewooa were well attended on Wednesday, and were well tilled with stock. There was throughout. the sale a fair competition, though the prices obtained for store cattle and young stock were, if anything, in favor of buyers. Owners, it seems, want to make room for dairy cattle, of which it is said there is
likely to be a considerable increase this season. On the whole the sale was a good one, and most of the stock yarded found buyers at satisfactory rates. Good dairy stock especially were readily sold. Yearling Jersey heifers, fair quality, made £4 3s, other heifers £2 to £3 ss, and steers up to 31s. Empty heifers sold at from £3 10s to £6 15s, poor quality store cows Ils to 17s 6d, better lines 32s Gd to 90s, store bullocks £2 15s, Two fat bullocks made £lO and £l2 respectively. Fat cows £7 16s. In dairy stock tho pedigree Jersey heifers ‘springing, sold for 40 guineas, and the others for 21 guineas. Grade heifers from £ll to £2O, ordinary springing heifers £9 to £l9. A pedigree Jersey cow close to profit made £25, and other cows springing from £lO lo £2l. The sheep yarded sold: Lambs from Gs to 12s, and inlairnb ewes from 6s 3d to lus. T. LAMASON’S WEEKLY REPORT. My nsnul weekly sale, was liold at my rooms last. Saturday, and there was a ,’arge attendance. A good entry of .poultry and various oiler lines were catalogued. I quote:— Hens, old, 2s 9d to 3s Gd, young 3s 6d to ss; pullets, 6s Gd to 10s; ducks, 3s 6d to 5s 3d; roosters, 2s (id to ss: Barberry, small (5s a 100). potatoes, 13s sack; best prime O.S. chaff, £9, 7s Gd sack; bran, 18s ,(180) ; pollard, 28s (200) ; best barley meal, 2K's (200) ; wheat, Ils; mixed grain, 7s; oats, ss; horse covers, £2 7s 6d; best white duck cow covers, about 235, other lines 12s Gd.
