LORD NORGHCLIFFE.
TOUR OF THE PACIFIC. WASHINGTON CONFERENCE HOPES OF ITS SUCCESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyr’gbt. Received July 27, 9.1 U p.m. New York, July 26. Lord Northcliffe, interviewed, said he did not know what his plans would be . when, he arrived in Australia. He wanted to see the peoples of Australia more than [ the Governments, and he did not desire banquets and official receptions. He pk- ! pected to spend a week in New Zealand, then staying in Australia for three weeks, 1 and afterwards going to the Philippines. Referring to the Imperial Conference, Lord Northcliffe said their part in bringing up the Pacific question was undoubtedly beneficent. It was an invaluable thing for them to get together and discuss mat- , ters of close interest. President Harding's conference call was highly commendable, and be could only hope it would accomplish the end desired as speedily as his American friends expected it would. "Americans have not as yet,” Lord Northcliffe added, “had as much experience as we have had in seeing politicians of sixteen different nationalities bottled together behind closed doors. They don’t settle a series of difficult questions within fortyeight hourrs. The Washington Conference will probably meet in many cities throughout the country', even meeting up in Canada, but af’er a considerable period of time it can be expected they will solve their problems.”—Aus.-N.Z.
