THE SPRINGBOKS’ TOUR. WELLINGTON SEEKS RETURN MATCH. GAME AGAINST THE MAORIS, By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In accordance with a general wish for a return match with the South Africans, the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright), has dispatched the following telegram to the manager of the : Springboks (Mr. Bennett), at Christchurch: “Congratulations on your victory at Wellington ; there is a general desire here for a return match at end of tour; are you agreeable?; if so will you submit your reply to New Zealand Union.’’ Consideration has been given to a proposal to match the Springboks against the Maoris, and it is now practically certain that a game will be arranged. Suggestions for a definite fixture will be placed before the New Zealand Rugby Union management coimmittee on Thursday evening for confirmation. TARANAKI v. WANGANUI. TO-MORROW’S MATCH. The match between Taranaki and Wanganui at Stratford to-morrow should draw a large attendance, as it is certain to provide a great game. When the teams met in June at Wanganui, Taranaki gained the victory by a narrow margin, though Wanganui were unlucky to lose. Since then each team has been considerably improved, as may be gathered from the great fight each made against the Springboks, and the meeting of the two teams is being looked forward to with considerable interest. The Wanganui teaun is motoring to Stratford and will return home the same night. While at Stratford the team will be quartered at the Stratford Hotel, whilst the Taranaki team will make its headquarters at the I Crtth Hotel. Mr. Frank Roberts, of New Plymouth, will referee. NOTES. A meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union will be held at Stratford to-morrow evening.
