STOREMEN’S DISPUTE.
WOOL HIDES AND GRAIN .SECTION.
DISCUSSED BY CONCILIATION
The ■Conciliation Council sat at New Plymouth yesterday morning to hear the wool, hides, grain and manure section of the storemen and packers’ dispute. The Commissioner (Air. T. Harle Giles) presided. The assessors were: For the- employers, Messrs. L. A. Nolan, W. Healy and C. H. Wynyard; and for the union. Messrs. H. Dyson (Wellington), A. Gaylard and F. J. Lyons. An agreement was arrived ‘'at on all points at issue except wages, and this question was referred to the Court of Ai-bitration. The Council agreed to a 44-hour week, and that overtime shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., and double time between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Tn respect to holidays, it was agreed that the following shall be recognised: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign. 1 Labor Day, Christmas Day and Boxing ' Day. Work done on Sundays, Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day i riiall be paid for at double rates, and any work done on any specified holiday, or any holiday observed in lieu thereof, shall be paid’ for at the rate of time and a half. The said payments shall be made in addition to the ordinary week’s wages. ■Seven days’ holiday on full pay is stipulated for each worker on completion of every twelve months’ continuous service, and at a time to ‘be determined by the employer. When a worker is required to work overtime after 6.30 p.m. the employer shall provide a meal or pay the worker Is 6d, unless such worker has been notified on the previous day that he would be required to work overtime. Provision is made for under-rate
! workers. Overalls have to 'be found ' where employees are handling manure I and hides, and no individual worker j shall carry any bag exceeding 2001 b. lin weight. Employers shall, on reqtfest, j notify the union weekly of any new I hand taken on during that period. The 1 Court’s usual preference clause is included. At the conclusion of the sitting Air.
