DAIRY WORKERS’ WAGES.
CONCILIATION COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS.
DISPUTE OVER PREFERENCE CLAUSE.
Consideration of the Taranaki dairy employees’ dispute, which was adjourned from Stratford on the 22nd hist., was resumed at a sitting of the Conciliator Council in New Plymouth yesterday. Assessors for the companies were: Messrs. A. Morton, J. Marx and T. Harry Penn. Mr. F. J. Lyons was the representative on the Union’s behalf. The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. T. Harle Giles) presided. Although the whole of the points at issue were amicably settled at Stratford, the assessors for the dairy companies refused to make any recommendations. unless the Union were prepared to surrender their preference clause. This Mr. 'Lyons declined to do, and the representatives of the companies withdrew the recommendation which had been arrived at in Stratford.
The whole of the dispute now passes on to the Arbitration Court. The Commissioner expressed his regret at the unsatisfactory termination of the Council’s deliberations.
