COLLAPSE OF YORKSHIRE. With 289 tc get Yorkshire went in again. Holmes facing Gregory and Macdonald. The latter‘began badly, with three no-balls in one over. All the same the batsmen found difficulty in getting the ball away, and only twelve were scored in the first twenty minutes, of which five were extras. Malley .and Armstrong came on at 25, and, at 35, Sutcliffe was caught at short. Blip, the result of 50 minutes’ batting. Oldroyd joined Holmes, who hit two successive fours cS Malley, making 11 in that over. Armstrong made some slips in the field, wjtich drew rude personal remarks from the crowd. After lunch the attendance increased, but was under 5000. Later on many hundreds of schoolboys were admitted free. Armstrong and Malley persevered, the captain presumably wishing to eave ills fast bowlers, but tho batsmen scored freely, ans so far was doing«well, with every prospect of obtaining a draw. Some delightful drives off Malley caused the field to widen out, which limited the scoring to siffgles. At 81 Holmes was unlucky enough to pull Armstrong into his wicket, having made 43, with four fours, in 80 minutes. He had just before given a very difficult, chance to Collins. Holmes’ departure was tho signal for a rot to set in. Oldroyd was stumped at 99, and Gregory then came on again and proved irresistible, the remaining five wickets only adding 14 runs. Burton again stayed in, but was let off one, and so fast did tho wickets fall that he had only time to score three. Within ten minutes of time the Australians had gained a. handsome victory by 175 runs. Scores; YORKSHIRE.
