The opinion was expressed by an experienced fanner that numbers of dairymen made the mistake of feeding roots m the wrong way. Mangels, for instance, should be pulled at least three or four weeks before being fed to stock, and if kept until they become quite soft, so much the Letter, To pull these roots and feed straight away was a big mistake. The severe drought that is at present being experienced in Great Britain and Western Europe, while it may create -an increased demand and firmer prices for New Zealand dairy produce, should come as a warning to the farmers of this Dominion. Experience has shown that the climatic conditions in England are invariably followed by similar conditions in New Zealand. In view of the possibility, therefore, of a severe drought in the Dominion, farmers should set to work to provide themselves with green feed and root crops for the summer months.
