FRENCH DIPLOMACY.
WORKS AGAINST BRITAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —•Copyright. London, July 22. British official circles are viewing with misgivings certain tendencies in recent French diplomacy evidenced by: 1. The postponement of the Supreme Council meeting. 2. The forced peace in Upper Silesia in Poland’s favor. 3. The apparent endeavor to play off Britain against Turkey. Britain has long endeavored to give Turkey the best possible settlement, owing to her desire to placate Indian Moslem opinion, but Fiance has created the impression that she is outbidding Britain, though it is extremely doubtful whether France is anxious to give Turkey any real powers. It is believed that France’s attitude has partly provoked the Angora Government’s recent truculence. The Greek victories in Asia Minor are likely further to complicate the situation by making it difficult for Britain to secure the Near East settlement, at which she is aiming.
