Association was I held to-day, about 20 members being present. Mr. G. Sangster was in tho chair. The following monthly report, submitted by the chairman, was adopted; In last month’s report stress was laid on the necessity of increasing the membership of of the association, the committee being asked to give their assistance as far as possible in the enrolment of new members. It was realised that through (he rather doubtful outlook for the ensuing year the comparatively easy task of the past couj.ile of years could not be expected. For this reason renewed effort was asked for. Hbwever, judging from the tone* of recent newspaper reports a much more optimistic feeling prevails, as far as the dairying outlook is concerned, than was the case a short while back. This feeling being abroad, and, if the start which Has I already been made is an indication of the j scope available for increasing the roll of I membership, with your co-operation we [should raise the number of our members • to a point higher than has yet been at- : rained. In the Shorthorn and Ayrshire classes we have no local organisation to [forward breeders’ interests, and it is hoped ' that supporters of these breeds will endeavor to make their respective classes j more attractive than with the usual prize • money awarded to all breeds by the association. Mr. Petrie’s challenge trophy in ■ the Shorthorn section is still open" for j competition, and Mr. Boon’s challenge troi phy for most points in the j Ayrshire section was won. outj right last year. We are hoping that j arrangements w f ill be made whereby j another points trophy will be presented to the association this year. Last year we had a very marked and satisfactory in--1 crease in the interest and number of en- . tries received in the junior section, and ! from movements on foot it is probable thaf [ this section will again shw a large ad- ! vance. In the dog section one of the members interested hopes to raise sufficient funds amongst enthusiasts to award a championship of £5 for the best working Collie. The following new members were elected: Messrs. C. Arden, W. Fraser, A. A. Thompson, J. F. Young, G. W. Woods L W, G. Liddell, Bake and Co., R, D, .
donald, E. G. Trass, G. B. Knowles, H. A. Knowles and C. Therkloson. On the motion of Messrs. Pollock and Duke it was resolved that only pigs entered or eligible for entry in the heft'd book be accepted for competition in pedigree classes. A general discussion took place as to the best means for improving the present pig pens, Messrs. Sangster, Rutledge, Tipper and Phillips being appointed a subcommittee to inspect and report. On the motion of the president the following resolution was carried unanimously: “That this committee places on record their keen appreciation of the splendid services rendered by Mr. A. 11. Huggett to the association, and that it is with sincere regret we are losing him. We extend to him, his wife and family our best wishes for their future happiness, health and prosperity, anti that Mr. Huggett be made an honorary life member of the association.
