WELSH ROMANCE.

MINER’S FORTUNE FOR DAUGHTER. The Supreme Court of the United States has at last decided a protracted will contest as to whether a VVelshman who had made his fortune in America and lost his life on the Lusitania was domiciled in the United States or in Wales, where he was preceding to make his final home. The Welshman was e man named Evan Jones, of Llanswell, Carmarthen* shire, who, forty years ago, to escape the consequences of an illicit love affair, migrated to America and made his fortune mining in Wapello, County lowa. In 1915 he left the United States, having announced that, although he was Americanised, he was returning to Wales to spend the remainder of his life. Before leaving he sold his property, which consisted of several farms, and banked 20,000 dollars. It appears that before leaving America, he had spoken of a daughter in Wales, although he acknowledged that he had never been married, and he sent for the girl’s photo, graph. She was the child born of his love affair, and now married to a farmer.

The Lower Court decided against her claim to the estate, but the Supreme Court reversed the decision, and held that Mr Evan Jones’s domicile was in Wapello until he had actually taken up his residence in Wale", and, consequently to the law of lowa, the illegitimate daughter was entitled to the entire estate. The result of the case has created great interest jn Llandilo and Pontardulais district, where all the parties are well known.
